At-Takathur

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
-
أَلْهَىٰكُمُ
Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

- أَلْهَاكُمُ
- شَغَلَكُمْ عَنْ طَاعَةِ اللهِ.
- التَّكَاثُرُ
- التَّفَاخُرُ بِكَثْرَةِ الأَمْوَالِ وَالأَوْلَادِ وَالمَتَاعِ.
Tafsir Arabic
شغلكم عن طاعة الله التفاخر بكثرة الأموال والأولاد.

حَتَّىٰ
Until you visit the graveyards.[1980]
Word meanings 1 Arabic
- زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ
- دُفِنْتُمْ فِي القُبُورِ.
Translator’s notes
[1980]- i.e., remain in them temporarily, meaning until the Day of Resurrection.
Tafsir Arabic
واستمر اشتغالكم بذلك إلى أن صرتم إلى المقابر، ودُفنتم فيها.
-
كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
No! You are going to know.
Tafsir Arabic
ما هكذا ينبغي أن يُلْهيكم التكاثر بالأموال، سوف تتبيَّنون أن الدار الآخرة خير لكم.
-
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
Then, no! You are going to know.
Tafsir Arabic
ثم احذروا سوف تعلمون سوء عاقبة انشغالكم عنها.
-
كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ
No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...[1981]

- حَقَّ العِلْم.
Translator’s notes
[1981]- The conclusion of this verse is estimated to be "...you would not have been distracted from preparing for the Hereafter."

ما هكذا ينبغي أن يلهيكم التكاثر بالأموال، لو تعلمون حق العلم لانزجرتم، ولبادرتم إلى إنقاذ أنفسكم من الهلاك. لتبصرُنَّ الجحيم، ثم لتبصرُنَّها دون ريب، ثم لتسألُنَّ يوم القيامة عن كل أنواع النعيم.
-
لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ
You will surely see the Hellfire.
-
ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا
Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.[1982]

- عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ
- لَتُبْصِرُنَّ جَهَنَّمَ يَقِينًا بِلَا رَيْبٍ.

[1982]- i.e., with actual eyesight.

ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ
Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.[1983]

- النَّعِيمِ
- كُلِّ أَنْوَاعِ النِّعَمِ مِنَ الأَمْنِ، وَالأَهْلِ، وَالمَطْعَمِ، وَنَحْوِهَا.
